Once upon a time in 2004 I took a fly fishing class. I didn't catch very many fish. In fact, I only caught one. The one time I did catch a fish, I asked the TA to come take a picture for me. He waded over to offer assistance, picked the fish up out of the water (he had a net, I still don't), and took my camera from me. The fish began to flop, so he dropped the camera in the water to save the fish. Realizing what he had done, he dropped the fish to save the camera. The camera didn't function after, and I was left fish-less, camera-less, and picture-less.
I went fishing again with J today, and our objective was to get me to catch a fish. J waded across the river in one spot, but suggested an alternate route may be better for me since I struggle wading in deep and/or swift water. The route wasn't as easy as either of us assumed and I ended up swimming. To add to that embarrassment, my camera got soaked and quit functioning. I did however, catch a fish later in the day, but there is, again, no photographic evidence of my fishing abilities. Go figure, or should I say go fish?

Life Repeats Itself: NYC
Last week, I went to New York to visit my sisters. One thing we did was walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and eat pizza at Grimaldi's. Yum! Funny thing is in July 2004, I went to New York and visited the sisters, walked across the bridge with my parents, and ate pizza at Grimaldi's. Check out the pics from the two trips.
Strikingly similar, no?

Is Ballet a Sport?
On the 14th of every month, my roommates and I hold a themed party. In honor of the NBA playoffs, we watched the Jazz game and had guests dressed up as athletes of some sort or their fans. I decided to pull out my old ballet leotard and pink tights. Is ballet really a sport? Who knows, but I had fun.
Fishing, Part I
Tuesday I went fly-fishing. I didn't catch a fish, but I'll try again before the term is over. There are no pictures to document my failure. I went with my friend J who caught four and kept two. He cooked them and I ate one. I ate trout. This is novel and new. I liked the trout, too.

Caution: Domestic Goddess in the Making
Yes folks, Hayley is becoming domestic. I've had two hard semesters in a row, so now I'm finally taking some time to do things I enjoy. Lately, I've been cooking up a storm.

In the past two weeks I've made Chicago-style Deep Dish Pizza (sauce and all), Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies, Stuffed Tomatoes, Deviled Eggs, Gyoza (as pictured) and Black Bean and Corn Salsa. The gyoza recipe made twice as much as it said it would, so I'm going to finish making them tonight.

The Gyoza and the Banana Chocolate Chip Cookie recipes need some work, but the Salsa was amazing! I took it to the ward Cinco de Mayo party and everyone loved it. You should try it!
Black Bean and Corn Salsa
1 15 oz. can black beans
1 11 oz. can whole kernel corn
1 jalapeno pepper
2 medium tomatoes
1 red, yellow, or orange bell pepper
1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1/2 red onion
1 1/2 tablespoon lime juice
1 teaspoon salt
1 avocado
Rinse and drain the corn and beans. Chop the produce, except avocado, and add to the corn and beans. Add lime juice and salt. Add chopped avocado immediately before serving.

The Blog Begins
I have decided to start a blog. Actually, I have finally decided to post something in the blog I began over a year ago. Oh, the excitement! I am looking for a new album to obsess over. I have been listening to The Postal Service’s album Give Up a lot of the past few months.

It’s been in my car’s six CD changer since I got the car in February ’07. The more I listen to the album the more I love it! I can’t get enough of it! Music is one of my loves. If I was more talented I would be a musician in some amazing band, preferably of the boy-girl variety.
I'm dedicating this blog to my random musings. Please enjoy!
